A: I would mix the chamomile and peppermint tea and try that. Might get a little bronchiol relaxation from it. Use the cold care P.M. (check the label for contraindications) at night.
When you’re shopping, try to find some Traditional Medicinals Breathe Easy Tea in the natural foods store. Also get some Quercetin (a bioflavinoid) with Bromelain (an enzyme) available in capsules. This will help with inflammation, when taken on an empty stomach 2-3 x daily. I think Solaray makes one called QBC that has vitamin C in it. NOW Foods makes a capsule called “Respirall” that has the Quercitin, plus Nettles –excellent product for asthma. It will cost you about $23 a month and you might never need an inhaler again.
Q: can asthma treatments make symptoms worse?
My daughter has seasonal asthma. I recently gave her a treatment that seemed to make her symptoms worse. Is that possible? Does she need something stronger? Help!
A: You should do some research. Ask yourself this… did the pill or treatment come before or the same time the name “seasonal asthma” was created? I already know the answer. Possibly look into gluten intolerance diet( left hand side of webpage below) . Clean up her system for goodness sakes. Sounds like your child is allergic to the foods she is eatting. Try organol from the health food store.
I mean really what are all the side effect of the drug that was created beofre the disease was named. … weaking of heart, lung detioration, liver disease, ……. Seasonal asthma! Allergies, You can figure this one out im sure.

A: ant tea will work because it is not the tea that help so much as it is the steam. A cup of hot water would do the same as a cup of tea. Some times a really icy cup of water following the hot drink will help open you up. Most of the time just not eating or drinking any dairy products will help also as dairy increase mucus production. My son swear mountain dew or any drink loaded with caffine helps him. Try taking a good allergy med 2 times a day and see if you can prevent the attack from coming by blocking the allergins that cause them.
Q: What are the types of and symptoms of asthma?
What are the different types of asthma (sports, bronchial, etc) and what are the symptoms/treatment of each?
A: Signs and symptoms are different for everyone however they are the same for the one person who has asthma. In other words, one person may cough uncontrollably with their asthma attack. That cough would happen with a sports induced attack or a cold air induced attack. It should be the same.
Someone else may wheeze with their asthma attacks to the same triggers.
The key to managing asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them as much as possible. If you are unable to avoid your triggers you will need medication to help. Controller medications are taken everyday and help prevent attacks. These medications include Singulair, inhaled steroids and oral steroids.
Rescue medications are use to reverse an attack. the two most common rescue medication are albuterol (provental or ventelin) or Xopenex.

Q: Are there any home remedies that can lessen the effects of asthma symptoms?
I went to my doctor due to the asthma symptoms, and he told me that it would go away when the pollen levels get a touch lower.
He told me to try some home treatment and remedies, like honey, in the meantime, and I wanted to see more suggestions.
Thanks for the help!
A: Well caffiene is a mild bronchodilator so you may try drinking soda or coffee. Keep in mind that this doesnt work fast, it takes time for it to dissolve in your bloodstream. Also, you may try Oregano, I have heard from several of my patient that it helps them. There is an Oregano supplement called Oregomax that you can buy at most vitamin stores.
Q: diagnostic criteria, common symptoms, health effects, treatment for asthma?
Someone help please
A: Peak flow is usually your easiest method of diagnosis… it will tell you the severity, and it will tell you if your asthma responds to medication (you’ll do one before and one after and note the change).
If you were to go to a doctor and ask for a definitive test, they’ll probably order a Pulmonary Function Test for you.
Symptoms are usually just shortness of breath and wheezing, but those are both subjective at best. Check out these Wiki Pages for more information:

Good luck to you.
Q: what is the best alternative treatment for asthma.?
Looking for something, such as homeopathy or an herbal remedy that can help with asthma symptoms.
A: This is one question I am fully qualified to answer. I have lived and experimented with everything under the sky for over 60 years. I have the severest form of asthma and moderate COPD. I can not put all of my knowledge gained in this format, but I will give you some important pointers. No room here for explanations.
1. Never ever get constipation. I mean never ever.
2. Become a vegetarian – yes, I do mean that.
3. Eat more of the vegetables which minimize bloating.
4. Eat a lot of SPINACH. Yes, that is right.
5. Eat vegetables, like squash, green beans, etc.
6. Eat lots of fruit.
7. Eat carbohydrates, but try to to minimize.
8. Drink lots and lots of room temperature water.
9. No sweet colas or sweet stuff.
10. When you feel short of breath, drink hot water. Believe it or not I have been doing it for decades. Water right out of tap. You have to decide what you want to do.
11. Deep and hard yogic breathing.
12. Yogic stretching for flexibility.
13. Some weight lifting. I do dumbles only.
14. Live a worry free clean life.
You must do these sincerely. Then, let me know how you feel.
Must tell your doctor prior to proceeding.
Q: Does my asthma need more treatment?
I had bronchitis when I was 10, and within a few months of recovery, was diagnosed with “exercise-induced asthma”. e.g.- when I run or bike or do anything that makes me breathe harder, I get asthma symptoms. I’m seventeen now, and have taken an inhaler for years before planned exercise, like gym class, bike rides, etc. Problem is, I’ve never really brought it up with my doctor again and I never felt like the inhalers really did anything. yeah, they were better than doing nothing before our required twenty minute runs, but I had medically obese or overweight friends that could run and especially breathe better than I could. I think maybe my asthma needs more treatment or something more, because I’m tired of running/biking/whatever and being in breathing agony (not trying to be overdramatic) oftentimes. I always kind of figured that was just exercise, but a few people have told me what I’ve got after hafrd phyiscal activity is not normal. Don’t want to go to the dotor unless really necessary, partially because I hate going to the doctors but also because I’ve never really complained about this to my family in the past 7 years, and when I’ve tried bringing it up recently they seem to think I’m overreacting. All I want is opinions if what I’m experiencing is normal or not, and if I should get more treatment for it..
A: You may need need an inhaled steroid to take daily, in addition to your regular routine.
Only you can tell whether your current regiment is working. Did your current regiment work better when you were younger? Do you get asthma when you are not exercising?
See your doctor to discuss the options, and if necessary get a referral to a pulminologist.

A: Loves Christmas,
To answer your question about Serevent, the reason is that the drung in it is salmeterol, a long-acting beta agonist (LABA). In an FDA report released in December, an analysis of more than 100 trials found an increased risk of hospitalization and asthma-related deaths with the LABA-only therapy, but not when it is used in combination with corticosteroids. That is why Advair (which contains salmeterol and fluticasone, a steroid) is still being used and not Serevent which is being highly avoided.
As for Ameera, be cautious not to mix between human and animal studies. There were many animal studies that looked promising in a mouse-model of asthma (like anti IL-5), but were completely useless when it came to human trials.
Q: What is the safe, and best way to ease asthma symptoms?
I was diagnose with asthma about a year ago and the only effective treatment was using the inhaler Pro Air (abuterol sulfate) and the bad news is; I don’t have health insurance anymore to refill the medication and don’t have any doctor to write me a perscripton for another afforable inhaler. I’m currently having a difficult time breathing and worst of all; the the town I live in (Fresno) was scored: POOR, on air quality. Some suggested to work out the lungs so it can expand, some reccommeded nautral remedies like herbs, and others say to avoid the areas that trigger the symptoms. I don’t know what to do anymore. I really want to start doing more however, I don’t have the energy, and almost the entire central valley has bad air quality. What do I do?
A: My friend has experienced huge relief with a high quality, HEPA air purifier. Obviously this will help you indoors only, and is a one-time large investment. But she hardly even uses her inhaler anymore
Q: Is this the correct asthma treatment for severe asthma?
I was diagnosed with severe asthma. I have had asthma my entire life, but it has gotten much worse the last few years. I have recently been diagnosed with a lot of allergies this year, some even food, which I know to avoid. I just want to know if anyone else out there is on this same treatment or similar for my type of asthma.
I take Advair 500/50 2 times a day
Singular 1 time a day
Allegra D 2 times a day
Spiriva 1 time a day
Fluticasone inhaled 2x daily
Albuetrol as needed
Considering Theophylline or Aminophylline if symptoms do not improve.
Thanks for you help.
The Fluticasone propionate is an inhaled nasal spray. So, I take the advair inhaled in mouth, other through nose. Sorry about not specifiying. I took Allegra, but it does nothing for me. The Allergra-D does help much more. I have also tried Clariton and Zyrtec. They do nothing for me. Zyrtec actually makes me really sick. I felt like this was a lot of medicine, but I have checked to make sure ingredients in steriod mouth inhalers do not overlap, which they do not.
A: i have asthma and allergies and i take many of the meds you listed. so i would say yes..
Q: whats the best way to avoid asthma and dust allergy?
I have dust allergy, just started recently, i cant even sleep because of wheezing, i have cold and throat infection too, i feel too difficult to breath, once in every month for atleast 5days i suffer this, doctor told me its the symptom of asthma so becareful, i am 21 now, even from my child hood days i had dust allergy but parents didnt take it as serious now i suffer a lot, when i have allergy i feel something hard in my lungs feeling like heavy weight i cant breath properly after taking antibotics it will be fine for some days again it will start. whats the best way to avoid asthma.. i have almost all the symptoms of asthma like regular cold, difficult to breath so on… do i have asthma? i heard that there is no treatment to cure asthma whats the best way to avoid it.
A: Well outside there is little you can do unless you wear a mask-however in doors you can do the following
1. remove rugs and curtains in your room(they hold dust.
2. Put up blinds on your windows and wipe them down weekly
3. Buy pillow covers – they will keep out mites.
4. Buy a case to seal up your bed in. Get a case that can be wiped down
5. buy a non allergenic blanket
have a pair of comfortable clothes that you can put on as soon as you get home. before going into your room take a shower and put those clean clothes on. leave a hamper in the bathroom to store that days dirty clothes.
it will cost you money at first but the relief you get will pay for it in the end
Q: Questions about asthma — symptoms to look out for and possible death? Please help!?
Hi, I have pretty severe asthma, and right now it’s worse than ever because I have a sinus infection too. UGH! Anyway, I’m doing 330 mcg of Flovent twice daily, plus a Xopenex nebulizer treatment every 4 hours (like clockwork). I’m also on Allegra-D and Biaxin (plus Tylenol for fever as needed, and Benadryl because I’m sneezing like crazy and the Allegra-D isn’t cutting it). The problem is that even with the asthma medication, I have a terrible asthma cough, I constantly feel short of breath, and I’m wheezing (even immediately after doing a neb treatment). It gets much worse at night when I lay down, so I’ve slept sitting straight up for 4 days. Regardless, the asthma is getting worse and my doctor’s office isn’t open on the weekends. I hate going into the hospital a lot, and in the last month alone I’ve been in there 3 times (twice for asthma, which they gave me steroids for, and once I was admitted for a food poisoning/viral thing)… (continued below)
Sometimes struggling to breathe gets so intense that my neck gets like sucked in to that little divot where your collar bone is. Is this reason enough to go into the hospital or should I wait it out? I’m very reluctant to go in too because I know they’ll give me steroids, and I’m still having problems from other steroids I was on 2 months ago (and I went through severe withdrawals). I also want to know, where I’m taking the Benadryl (under my doctor’s recommendation) for the sneezing, and it makes me drowsy, would it ever make it so that I would just die in my sleep and not wake up from an asthma attack? When I’ve taken it over the past few days, I make myself stay away… which is nearly impossible. I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep and won’t wake up! Is that even possible? Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and hopefully offer some advice!
A: It sounds like you need to get a new Dr. You should go see an allergist and have a full blown allergy test done to see what you are allergic to. Once they find that out, they can give you allergy shots to get that under control – they have you on way too many different meds that all semi treat the same thing (from the sounds of it, yours is pretty bad that is why I am recommending that) Also do you have a pulmonary specialist or are you going to your primary care physician for you Asthma? If you don’t have a pulmonary Dr…..I would get one asap. As far as what you are experiencing right now…..GO TO THE HOSPITAL – it is better to be safe then sorry and you sound like you are in bad shape! If you do have specialist already, I would highly recommend getting a second opinion because it sound like you are on too many meds and you are not even managing your disease so it looks like you need a new course of treatment!
Q: in a child with asthma (coughing fits from bronchitis) would it be good or bad to serve hot ramen soup or some
thing cold like a PB&J sandwich. I have never dealt with this type of asthma symptoms before and not sure what would be the best or what would be harmful…he is on medication and treatments for the coughing.
A: My son had asthma when he was tiny. I would shut bathroom door, run a hot bath with menthol oil in it eg eucalyptus oil and steam up the room. I would not take him outside. I am sorry i cant help more but as for the food, give him what he fancies, soup should be fine. best wishes x
Q: Asthma symptoms, or is it something else?
5 weeks ago I had shortness of breath, chest pain and a fever. I went to one of those walk-in clinics and the doc said I had Bronchitis (I had no cough)
My doc yesterday said she heard a rubbing sound in my lungs–tested my breathing, gave me a treatment and it did not improve.
I don’t cough. I have minor wheezing(mostly when I exercise). .
My doc is not sure whether it is Asthma or not. What else could it be? How should I treat it?
I am going to a Pulmonologist.
A: Wheezing is the hallmark sign of Asthma. But, fever is not. It is more then likely that you had either Bronchitis or some other infection.
Pleurisy is one of the other conditions that can cause a rubbing sound. The chest pain is really bad with this and it hurts to breathe in deep.
The Pulmonologist will do tests and take an xray of your lungs to rule out everything.
