Q: is it true that having a chihuahua can help cure asthma and allergies?
is it true…. i am considering a chihuahua for a pet.. is it true that it can help control asthma

A: Asthma is such a complicated malady. My MIL got a Chihuahua for her grandson with asthma. It actually did seem to help! His lovable, elderly pediatrician told him it was a good idea, and Gramma told him it was a remedy, and he had far fewer asthma attacks after sleeping with “Lighty”. I believe it to be more emotional support than physical. Perhaps the warmth on his chest was comforting, and nightmares were fewer, and “Old Doc said it would help”. He is in his 40s now, and still has a Chihuahua.
I found this on Chihuahua Facts and Myths>(quoted)
Most people with Asthma or severe Allergy problems have a problem with furry pets. Not so, it seems, with the Chihuahua. Although there is no known medical evidence to support the idea that they can cure any disease, many Chihuahua Owners who suffer with Asthma or severe Allergies claim the dogs do help. It has not been uncommon for people living in the Southwest to get a Chihuahua for a child or family member with Asthma or Allergy problems. It is a fact that Asthma and Allergy sufferers seem to do better with short or long haired Chihuahuas than with any other dog breed.

A: I shouldn’t answer this, because it’s not really an answer. That said, I was allergic to everything under the sun as a kid. As a result of the allergies, I had asthma as well. I took a series of injections over several years when I was (really) little. It wasn’t long before the allergies and asthma were completely gone. To the extent that I smoked for many years after that with no asthma. (Just making a point that the asthma was gone, I quit 2 years ago.) So anyway, it is possible. I should look into it and see what they did to me. LOL Interesting question.

Q: Is there a way to cure Asthma?
I have asthma really bad. I am trying out for my high school soccer team but I can’t do anything that involves running for a short period of time for example we have to run three laps at practice everyday and I can’t go one fourth of the way without feeling like my chest is gonna cave in and I can’t breath hardly at all. All I want to know is if there is a way to cure, stop, or control my asthma besides an inhaler because my inhaler dosent do crap!! I really enjoy soccer and I love to be active when ever I can. So can someone please find a solution to my problem and tell me why I have to do so that I don’t have a asthma attack or have this feelling that I have when ever inrun around for a short period of time!! Please helpmme out people I’m freakin desperate

A: Sorry, there is not a cure for it.
There are medications…..but asthma is the inflammation of the lungs…..the medications control this inflammation but they have not found a way to completely get rid of it.

Talk to your doctor…..there are pill forms too

A: Well outside there is little you can do unless you wear a mask-however in doors you can do the following
1. remove rugs and curtains in your room(they hold dust.
2. Put up blinds on your windows and wipe them down weekly
3. Buy pillow covers – they will keep out mites.
4. Buy a case to seal up your bed in. Get a case that can be wiped down
5. buy a non allergenic blanket
have a pair of comfortable clothes that you can put on as soon as you get home. before going into your room take a shower and put those clean clothes on. leave a hamper in the bathroom to store that days dirty clothes.

it will cost you money at first but the relief you get will pay for it in the end

Q: My dad told me to get a chihuahua for my daughter that might have asthma?
He says that it cures asthma but it will turn the chihuahua real sad and the dog will die if you don’t give him enough attention
If they can cure asthma if so why and how?

A: Conventional medical wisdom has always assumed that the presence of pets puts children at a higher risk of developing allergies.

BUT, more and more evidence is proving that the opposite is true. Children raised in a house with dogs during the first year of life may be less likely to develop allergic diseases as compared with children raised without pets, according to a study in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Q: Is anyone out there working on a cure for Asthma?
I know they are making amazing strides in all areas of health. Is anyone coming any closer in a cure for Asthma? Or is there currently no one focusing on this area?

A: I really hope they are close to finding a complete cure for asthma. I know that the American Lung Association collects money for more research for lung diseases and conditions, I’m not sure hwere asthma stands in that. But that thing about finding and ultimate cure is that it is diiferent for everyone. Asthma is very broad and symptoms and conditions change from person to person. So it will be very tough to simply find a cure. The cynic in me has something very differnt to say. I dont think the pharmacutical companies want to find a cure. I read you other question and there were somany people taking multiple treatments and medicines. The pharmacutical companies make so much money off of things that they cant ‘cure’ becuase there will always be a demand. It doesnt make them want to rush for a cure. I know it is depressing. It worries me.

Q: I am very disappointed that at this advanced age there is no cure for asthma?
any advice/ allergie precautions you take. Food you eat. Exercise you do to help strengthen your breathing pipes?
Is asthma a sickness/ Disease or it is just a reaction to the pollen?

A: Actually I’ve had asthma since I was diagnosed at 6 months. I always used my albeuterol along with the harmful cortisteriods. Now I use a natural herb called Lobelia. One pill every morning before my workout and my exercise induced asthma is gone! It’s so awesome. Along with anise oil in my tea and I’m inhaler free. This is amazing since in the past I had to use it 3-5 times daily and at night! Tell every one you know about these herbs and more.

Q: When and or how was a cure for asthma discovered?
i would like to know when and if its possible, how asthma was discovered.

A: How asthma was discovered.
Asthma is as likely old as the human race. There are references to asthma symptoms in ancient medical texts from India (from a system called ‘Ayurveda’), which go back a few millennia.

So when was asthma first discovered? No one knows for sure.

The word asthma has Greek roots. It is derived from a Greek word called ‘aazein’, which means ’sharp breath’.

Although the word asthma occurs in the Iliad (by Homer), it was Hippocrates, the Greek physician, who first used it to describe the medical condition, around 450 BC. He pointed out the symptoms of the disease, including spasms.

Another Greco-Roman doctor, Galen, (130-201 BC) found out that asthma symptoms were caused by bronchial obstruction. He had the idea that it should be treated with wine laced with owl’s blood.

Asthma medication used to be delivered via smoke into the patients lungs, till the last decade of the nineteenth century. In the 1860s, animal dander was identified as one of the common triggers for asthma attacks.

During the early years of the 20th century, an Italian physician named Bernardino Ramazzini discovered that the incidence of asthma was connected to the kind of work the patient was engaged in.

Back in 1901, Jokici Takamine, a scientist from Japan, isolated adrenaline to a level of purity sufficient to be used as a bronchodilator. This was the first effective bronchodilator used by modern medicine.

It was only during the 1960s that the link between inflammation and asthma was discovered. This represented a quantum leap in understanding of the disease, which till then, was considered to be the result of constricted airways.

With that discovery, anti-inflammatory drugs began to be used in treating asthma.

Some studies have also linked the use of modern medication to the increased incidence of death from asthma, particularly during the second half of the twentieth century.

So there is no definitive answer to the question “When was asthma first discovered?” However, our understanding of the disease has progressively grown, particularly in recent decades.

Q: Is there and will there ever be a cure for Asthma?
i have asthma and is wondering if there is or ever will be a cure for asthma?

Q: Is there a a cure for asthma,is it good for a 7 year boy to use pump as a cure for asthma, what r its side effe?
the docs have advised us ,but is it harmful or no?

A: Has the 7 year old been assessed by a respiratory specialist, you must get a referral from your Dr to see one…….asthma medications just reduce the symptoms of Asthma not cure it…..as a 7 year old, he may grow out of it, my only advice is rinse the mouth out after every use of a pump, the medication destroys the enamel of the teeth and your more prone to mouth ulcers.
