Q: How is it that Great Britain only had 53 deaths by firearms in 2007-08?
“The level of gun ownership world-wide is directly related to murder and suicide rates and specifically to the level of death by gunfire.”

In a single year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the United States, according to the latest national data released in 2002. That is one child every three hours; eight children every day; and more than 50 children every week. And every year, at least 4 to 5 times as many kids and teens suffer from non-fatal firearm injuries. (Children’s Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics) (And it has only gone up.)

American children are more at risk from firearms than the children of any other industrialized nation. In one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5,285 in the United States. (Centers for Disease Control)

America is losing too many children to gun violence. Between 1979 and 2001, gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America. (Children’s Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics)

In one year, more children and teens died from gunfire than from
cancer, pneumonia, influenza, asthma, and HIV/AIDS combined. (Children’s Defense Fund)

I’m not trying to “rant,” but what is GB doing right? They don’t have criminals getting guns legally or illegally, so everyday citizens don’t feel the need to own guns. Personally, I’d love to see the U.S. have fewer than 100 gun deaths each year.

Basketball Fan88, Give me a break. Ok, how’s this–the U.S has 14.24 per 100,000 people and Great Britain has 0.10 per 100,000 and those stats are several years old. Gun violence in America has INCREASED, by Great Britain’s has DECREASED.
Veritas Odium Parit, YOU ARE WRONG. Gun deaths in Great Britain have DECREASED.

Great Britain vs. United States in Gun Deaths

Last year there were 42 gun-related deaths in Great Britain. This number includes homicides, suicides and accidental deaths.

The U.S. had 30,364 deaths by firearms. Even when you adjust for the population, Great Britain vs U.S gun deaths 210 to 30, 364
Scaredy, the United States is #24 in the WORLD for homicide. Great Britain is #46. Why do you and others turn to something you think is humorous when you can’t think of find solid facts/information to back up your claims.
Byte Me you are wrong. The United States far out-paces Great Britain in crime, period.

A: There is a huge problem with crime in the US. The United states outpaces any advanced industrialized nation with the exception of South Africa, when it comes to violent crime AND handgun death. The problem lies in the fact that there are far more handguns in the United States than there are people– more than enough to go around! And guns are not like drugs an other social ills; they don’t get used up and go away. England on the other hand banned guns while they were still quit rare. Its too late here.
I believe the only way to deal with the problem is by having extremely strong penalties for those illegally owning a fire arm or those who use guns during a crime. I also believe in registration of weapons, and cannot really see any reason to own an assault rifle.

One thing I also found interesting is the fact that the US has a higher rate of homicides committed WITHOUT a gun than the than the entire homicide rates of any country in Europe. In other words, erase all the firearm homicides, and our rate is still higher. Check out this link.

Q: what do u think of this essy so far?
THE DANGERS OF SMOKING
Juliana Okereke
Sec:7,8

All smokers must quit now!!! Scientists have discovered that smoking kills more people then Aids, alcohol, car accidents, suicide, and illegal drugs put together.Statistics shows that 22.3% of U.S citizens smoke. Smoking causes many different health risks, coast a lot of money, and is linked to environmental tobacco smoke, which is known has second hand smoking.

Studies have shown that smoking is dangerous to a smoker’s health and that 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes can cause cancer. In addition, smoking causes 30% of all cancer deaths. In 1982 Surgeon General stated That “Cigarette smoking is a major cause of cancer in the United states”. This is as true today as it was in 1982. Cancer is only half of the health problems caused by smoking. Smoking also causes heart disease, bronchitis, emphysema, and strokes.Addentionly, smoking can cause Osteoporosis, which is a disease that causes older people to become bent over and break there bones easily. Smoking is also said to shorten your life by 14 years.

Not only can smoking harm you, it can also cost you a lot of money. It is estimated that smoking just a pack a day, can cost you $1,800 a year wait there is more, smoking over the course of a life time can cost you $58,400.000 dollars! For example, smoker Barney has to pay $12 per day for one and a half pack of cigarettes that’s $4,380 per year. This is money you could spend on something useful such as helping the poor, buying a new car, or save for some thing special you may want to buy, later in your life.

Furthermore, not only can smoking harm the smoker, it can also harm the people around him or she too. This is known as second hand smoking or environmental tobacco smoke. Statistics says that 3,000 people die of second hand smoking each year. There are 2 types of second hand smoking: mainstream smoke and side stream smoke.Mianstream smoke is when half of the smoke is inhaled or exhaled. Sidesream smoke is when smoke floats in the air. Second hand smoking can cause a lot of health issues such as lung cancer, nasal sinus, cavity cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and bladder cancer. In addition too, second-hand smoking has a greater risk on children it can worsen their asthma conditions and can cause sudden infant death or (SID).

In conclusion, based on my research on the dangers of smoking, I think all smokers should quit because of its heath risks, heavy expenses on ones income, as well as hazards to the environment. In fact, in 1982 Surgeon General said that former smokers live longer than continuing smokers. For example, people who smoked and quit before the age of 50 have half the risk of dying in the next 15 years compared with continuing smokers. But even though 70% of smokers want to quit and 35% attempt to quit, sadly only 5% succeed in quitting. A famous quote, I think has to do with smoking is “Cigarettes are killers that travel in packs”; This quote tells about the danger of smoking. I think that if anyone ever chooses to smoke he or she is making a very bad decision.

A: I thinks its pretty good once you work out a few of the misspelled words

Q: Do you think i have Hodgkin’s or Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?
little over a year and a half ago i found a small bump, about the size of a jellybean on the back of my neck, it is slowly getting bigger.
i am constantly sick, usually with something that has to do with my throat, i just had strep throat, and now i have laryngitis
i have trouble breathing, i was told that i have asthma.. but my doctor didn’t weigh out all the options.
i also checked into the hospital about six months ago for extreme pain in my chest, sort of like a stabbing pain.
i have had the worst headaches i have ever experienced within the past few months, on the both sides of my head towards the back
i have been having a lot of trouble sleeping, constantly waking up in the night.. and before this i was a very calm sleeper.
i am a sixteen year old female in canada, and i checked some statistics from stats canada and it said that lymphoma is one of the leading cancers in children,
do you think i could have lymphoma?
please help!
*My parents and my doctor both know, they are looking at it and seeing if it grows, i am scheduled to go to see a neurologist next month

A: No you haven’t got it.
The doc would’ve found it by now.
The trouble is your headaches.
That confuses the issue with this type of cancer.
The bump getting bigger would’ve been biopsied by now by your Doctor so I don’t believe this would have been ignored.
