Q: Why do vital signs change during a severe asthma attack?
Why would temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate increased during a severe asthma attack?
A: A mild 1-2 degree temp increase is from an inflammatory response.
There are several reasons for the increase in heart and resp and bp.
All these things increase with anxiety and fear as adrenaline is released throughout the body. Not being able to breath right always causes severe anxiety..
The other reason is because the oxygen content of the body goes down during an asthma attack. Pulse gets faster to move more O2 throughout your body. While oxygen goes down the waste product carbon dioxide builds up. The faster breathing is the body’s attempt to blow off more carbon dioxide and return to a normal state. Your body gets acidic from all of this. It’s called respiratory acidosis. If all the increase in vitals signs work it is called compensated respiratory acidosis and means your body has returned to it’s normal ph by the above means. It’s a fairly complicated process and can be a little difficult to grasp at first. In other words your body changes in a bad way during an asthma attack and is trying to correct itself.
If the heart rate is up and resp. are up but BP goes down that means someone is loosing blood fairy quickly but it is one of the last changes.
Q: is there any signs that come before an asthma attack?
is there any signs like coughing or anything?
A: My asthma almost always is caused by allergies, and I usually sneeze a lot before an attack. I’ve found if I sneeze several times in a row, I have a bit more trouble breathing immediately afterward. It seems to be a very unusual sign, I’ve never known or heard of anyone else who does that.
Sneezing is the very first warning that I will probably have trouble. After this I will start feeling tight in my chest. If I have any physical activity, I feel tired more quickly, and my throat will burn.
The worst of an attack for me will start at night. I find it more comfortable on nights like this to sleep sitting up. Then usually in the middle of the night, I wake up with a full attack that needs my emergency inhalers.
Q: asthma attack??
i have asthma and today i think i had an asthma attack and it is the first time it has happened to me(im 13)! i felt dizzy, was wheezing, had shortness of breath, and i could barley see. it happened after i ran 400 meters at pe and it lasted about 20mins and then i turned back to normal after resting at my school office. My friends said it could be dehydration since i barley drank water today. My Questions are Is this really an asthma attack? Wat causes it? Wat are the Signs/Symtoms of an asthma attack?
it was very hot
A: It could have been. It also could have been dehydration or heat exhaustion. Talk to a doctor if you are worried, especially if it happens again. Check out site below for more info.
Q: If you have a child with asthma, how did you recognize an asthma attack?
My 2 girls have asthma and I was recently diagnosed with it. I’ve read a lot about the symptoms and signs of asthma and asthma attacks, but I would like to hear first hand experiences.
My girls are 5 and 3, and I have albuterol for the nebulizer in case of an attack.
I have a baby monitor on all night to hear them.
A: i have asthma and so does one of my daughters. hers is not typical in that she doesn’t wheeze, at least not that you can hear without a stethoscope. but she coughs and you can see her struggling to breathe. she’ll have trouble talking normally because she has to take extra breaths.
to gauge how bad it is we sometimes have her sing the abcs on one breath. if she doesn’t make it through, we pull out the inhaler….
for yourself, you’ll just know. i always feel like i have a brick on my chest.
it’s a pretty stressful thing. my daughter was really ill a lot until she got put on daily medications. best of luck for all of you.
Q: Is this a sign of an asthma attack?
I have sports induced asthma but I don’t get asthma attacks very often. I usually get them when swimming and playing soccer. When I do they can be minor or extreme, but I have noticed that right before I get one my cheeks get very tingly. Is this something to do with blood circulation or oxygen deprivation or something?
A: i am no doctor but i would assume it is just the way your body reacts. i get really shaky, my legs become weak, and my head hurts. do you have an asthma doctor that you see? i recommend mentioning this to him/her at your annual checkup. if you do not have one it would be very smart to make an appointment. it is important to have your asthma checked regularly to see if it is getting worse. asthma is a chronic illness/disease so having a record of it will benefit you in the future.
Q: Can anyone have an asthma attack?
As in, if you have an asthma attack, does that mean you’re asthmatic?
What are usually warning signs of asthma when you’ve never been diagnosed or your doctor has never even talked about it to you?
Can symptoms of asthma be something else?
A: You could have bronchial asthma. I used to have it when I was a kid and just had bhroncial asthma this year.
You should get tested. I have to use albuterol.
Q: What happens if you feel like your having an asthma attack but you don’t have and inhaler?
Every time I feel like I am going to have an asthma attack I can’t use an inhaler because my parents don’t believe me when I say I have asthma no matter how many times I tell them. I was looking up the signs on the internet and I have a tickle in the back of my throat, I cough all the time, I have the shortness of breath and all the symptoms so I don’t know why they don’t believe me! Thank you to whoever answers this!
A: Kiddo I am sorry for you, Nothing is worse than not being able to breath!
Next time you go to the doctor have the doctor lend your mother or father his stethoscope and have them listen to the wheezing. A cheap stethoscope can be purchased for about 10 bucks, the doc may even give you one. Then the next time you feel SOB have them listen to your lungs. If you aren’t wheezing you don’t want to use a bronchodilator. But if you are you should.
The steam thing the one person answered is incorrect! it can exacerbate an asthma attack… don’t do it.
Drink strong regular tea iced or hot doesn’t matter. It has natural theiophyline which works as a great bronchodilator.
Q: What is the main sign of an asthma attack, and why?
A: Finding it hard to breather! Because ultimately that’s how asthma affects you. This could also be presented by blue/grey ish lips and skin because the body is beginning to become starved of oxygen. Their may also be a loud wheezing which can be heard in the chest as well as a cough. The sufferer may find it hard to talk and when it gets to this point and prescribed medication hasn’t work medical attention is needed.
Q: After effects of an asthma attack?
I’m doing a report about asthma and asthma attacks for my health class. I’ve found information about signs of an asthma attack and what happens during one, but I can’t find any information about how people feel after. Like is there airway sore from stressing it so much during the asthma attack? Or are they tired from working their body so much? Any information will help. Thanks
A: well the last one that i was admitted to hospital for i stopped breathing 4 times. and after the attack had calmed down a bit i was able to sleep for like 1 hour at a time and your muscles hurt from being so tense or only your rib and neck muscles hurt if it gets really bad because you are so weak from trying to breath, any way your weak for days and it hurts like hell to breath for like a week, takes like 3 months to get over a severe attack, and every time i have an attack i don’t eat for like 2 days after wards and i don’t want to drink or anything.
so basically weak, tired, kinda agitated, PAIN, and i just don’t feel good at all for like a week, and it takes like 3 months to get over a severe attack. Hope it helps:)
Q: Why does my chin and side itch when I have an asthma attack?
Every time my asthma acts up one of the first signs is that my side (usually my right side) and my chin itches. Sometimes it happens even before I start to wheeze. I’ve never understood why it does that and I never got a chance to ask my doctor about it. I always just assumed it had something to do with oxygen deficiency.
Anyone got an explanation?
A: It is most probably that you are having an allergic reaction and the itching as well as your asthma are the symptoms of your reaction. Usually this happens to others as well, the symptoms will not start severely, but then the asthma comes through, and then you know you have a problem.
Q: What are the signs of a mild heart attack ?
or asthma attack.
A: Again there is no such thing as a minor heart attack. You need to go to ER if you think you have had one. Common signs are nausea, lightheartedness, pain in arm or shoulder, chest pain, feeling pressure on your chest, difficulty breathing, feeling of doom. Depending on your age you may not even have severe symptoms. This is generally relegated though to the elderly population.
Q: Can you describe a cat’s asthma attack brought on by stress?
I took my cat & two pups to the vet two days ago for their regular vaccines. Everything went well until I got to my car & the cat carrier began to shake violently and she was running in circles as fast as she could go & actually shaking. I rushed her back into the vet’s office to try and get help, and when I took her out of the carrier her eyes were completly dialated and she was panting heavily with her tounge hanging out. The vet took her away and told me she was probably having a reaction to the vaccines. I picked her up the next day, and the vet told me that she had an asthma attack brought on by too much stress. This seemed odd to me because she lives in a home with two 50lb. labs who already stress everyone out & she is always so calm and cool. I’ve had her for about a year & never has she shown any signs of asthma. have my suspicions that the vet may have accidently given my cat either too much dosage, or accidently given her one of the pup’s vaccines. What do you think?
A: Man, that sounds like your vet could have giving the cats to much. I would talk more to the vet and see what he says, but that is if they want to give you the right answer too
Q: Is it an asthma attack?
A while a ago I was laying in bed reading and then the words got kind of blurry and my head felt like it was spinning, so I tried to take deep breaths but my lungs and throat felt tight and constricted, so I took little, short, quick breaths. Gradually I started coughing and 20 or thirty minutes later I was able to take deep breaths easier. I’ve been coughing on and off both day and night ever since, so I went back on my inhaler, even though I showed no signs of my asthma for eleven years. I’m wondering if I actually had an asthma attack and if I did, why did it just suddenly show up?
A: If you haven’t had signs of asthma for 11 years, how old is your inhaler? Those things do have expirations dates, you know.
The only way to really know for sure is to see a doctor. It could have been an asthma attack, or a panic attack, or an allergic reaction to something, or any number of things.
Q: Are these signs of Asthma?
When I was younger my left lung would start to hurt when I would exercise. I think it was kind of a burning sensation. I was given an inhaler and told it was asthma, but I don’t recall ever feeling like it helped and I don’t think I ever had an asthma attack. I don’t have these symptoms anymore and am just wondering if it was in fact asthma.
A: It does not sound like it. Asthma is sometimes misdiagnosed. Unless you had a PFT *methacholine challenge) to diagnose it then your past diagnoses probably does not have a leg to stand on. If you it makes you feel any better, check with your GP to see if he can schedule you a PFT to rule out asthma.
Q: How many different forms do Asthma attacks take?
I have a few questions about asthma attacks:
1.) If someone had an asthma attack and didn’t have their inhaler on them, what would happen? Death? Shock? Unconsciousness? Depends on the attack?
2.) Is there a Plan B incase an inhaler is not present. Like insulin? I remember in ‘Signs’ they had a scene w/ a breathing exercise.
3.) Any other information I’m unaware of regrading asthma attacks?
A: I find that drinking coffee or getting some caffeine helps my asthma. I don’t think insulin would be a good choice. You can die from an asthma attack. I thought I was having panic attacks for years but finally a doctor diagnosed my asthma and I have not had a problem since. So an asthma attack and a panic attack can be pretty much the same.
