Q: Help with asthma food allergy!?
What foods are allergic to asthma patients? I am talking about general asthma. . . not more specific than that. sorry
I know it is minimal… But foods like durians do contribute!
A: if your talking about the general asthma that you are saying, foods are minimal contributor to the occurence of asthma. in asthma, it is the airways of humans are afectted. passageways inflames and blocks the air that suppose to be absorbed by the body.
mainly, air allergens, such as smoke and others, are those triggering factors initiating asthma…
Q: I want to get into the army(specops) but I have asthma and food allergies will I be recruited?
Peanuts dairy mushrooms shelfish. I’m am very athletic my asthma rarely bothers me.
A: It depends on the severity of your medical issues.
You will most likely have to take a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and if you pass that, then you should get a waiver for that issue.
As for food allergies, I think that really depends on how severe your allergies are.
Your recruiter would be more than willing to help you figure this out.
Q: does anybody know if i can be a police officer or FBI agent if i have asthma and food allergies?
i’m very healty, my asthma never gets in the way. im allergic to milk, egg and peanut and cannot join the military. Does anybody know if im still eligible to be a police officer? and also does anybody know if i could become an FBI agent?
Thanks everyone
A: Despite other advice given, I say it’s worth trying. If you can perform the job and the asthma doesn’t effect you, you should be fine.
The FBI also probably won’t care what you eat. As long as you don’t swell up and need to be rushed to the emergency room if you encounter peanut dust or something, you will probably not be barred from employment based on those conditions.
Q: How can I spice up my 5 year old little sister’s diet when she has severe food allergies?
Hello, my little sister has severe eczema, severe food allergies, & asthma.
Her diet is very bland, but she is allowed to have fruits, (except for citrus.) chicken, & rice.
I’m looking for some nice food recipes to make her diet a little better for her. She has such a hard time, seeing everyone else eat & not wanting the kind of foods she can have.
Are there any recipes you know of that would help her to better love the foods she can have?
Thanks!

Q: can i join the u.s navy if i have asthma and food allergies?
i take an inhaler in the morning and never have any problems. im allergic to milk, egg and peanuts. will this keep me from joining any branch of the u.s military?
A: You will not be able to join the Navy. Asthma alone is disqualifying, as is your food allergies.
Q: White rice recipes for a 5 year old with food allergies & eczema?
Hello, my little sister has severe eczema, severe food allergies, & asthma.
Her diet is very bland, but she is allowed to have fruits, (except for citrus.) chicken, & rice.
I’m looking for some nice food recipes to make her diet a little better for her. She has such a hard time, seeing everyone else eat & not wanting the kind of foods she can have.
Are there any recipes you know of that would help her to better love the foods she can have?
Thanks!
A: Here is one rice recipe that my kids love. The colors are bright yellow and green. I hope your sister is not allergic to any of the ingredients in it.
Saute a small sliced onion in 2 tbsp of canola or olive oil over low-med heat until the onion is soft. Add 1 tsp of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1 cup of rice. Stir and cook for 2 minutes, then add 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. When almost all the water is absorbed add some frozen green peas and cook for 5 more minutes.
Q: how common is it that a food allergy causes cough and runny nose?
My 4 year old daughter has suffered with middle ear infections from day one and also has suffered with post nasal drip induced cough which then they say turned into asthma. Her ear nose and throat specialist thinks it could be a food allergy causing all these symptoms but she only gets the cough from Oct. till May or June all summer she does not cough a bit. She did test positive for mold and is going thruo with imunotherepy for it. Any suggestions or links that could be helpful? I really don’t want to have her tested for food if it is not the reason for her being misserable. HELP please
A: Here are some links that I hope will be helpful. I’ve never known a food allergy to cause a runny nose or cough but then again you learn something new every day. Two of my children had food allergies but they always got a rash, . One of these two children also had childhood asthma which he luckily outgrew. We found out he was allergic to the dog and dust. I would suggest getting her tested for food allergies, then at least you can rule that out. The way they did it with my son was to put a thing with little needles on his arm, then dropped various food/liquid on his arm. Maybe you can ask the doctor to do you first, so that your daughter can watch your reaction, then she won’t be so terrified. That’s what I did with one of my children and she was fine when doing the tests.Anyways here are the links.

Q: Is it possible to have asthma problems from food allergies?
Is it possible for food allergies to cause problems with asthma? I have asthma from allergies. But I think I may have found my main trigger for asthma attacks. Very strange. I have never been able to digest milk. I love milk but every time I drink it an hour later I have bad asthma attacks. Is this possible?
These are all very helpful regarding dairy products being the cause of aggravated asthma since you all mention milk is a culprit in mucous production. Thanks. I didn’t drink milk today or anything with dairy products and my asthma was fine. I can’t choose which one is the best answer! But thank you! I feel better now.
A: There is a very simple blood test that your doctor could order to find out for sure. You may need to know for sure so that you know if there is a need to carry an EPI pen. Food allergies are very dangerous! Milk allergies are rare to develop as an adult, usually they come on as a baby and are outgrown by age 5 or so. My son is 9 and he just outgrew it, but he still fells weird when eating anything with milk.
It is very easy to have a milk free diet, with so may soy products available.
Make an appt. with an allergist and find out for sure.
Good Luck!
Q: What is holistic medicine & can it help with my allergies/asthma?
A friend recommends that I try holistic treatments for my allergist & asthma. Could holistic treatments help?
Also when I did a Google search I found this Website http://www.allergifree.com/ which claims that
Dr. Opachich has found a way to eliminate all allergies completely in 80% of his patients. Even pet, seasonal & food allergies.
Could this really work or is it too good to be true?
Thank you for your opinion & any advise.
A: u go for German Homeopathy medicine for 1yr treatment it will cured surly.
Q: Am I able to become a FBI agent if I have food allergies and controlled asthma? I am athletic and healthy.?
A: It shouldn’t be a problem. Here is a website that list all the requirements to become an FBI agent. http://www.fbijobs.gov/111.asp
Q: What food additives are most likely to cause an allergic reaction?
I’m looking for information regarding allergies/asthma and food additives. Thank you.
A: peanuts
Q: Asthma and food allergies …need information on?
My step son is 9 and has asthma it runs in my husbands family. His mother is convinced that the only way to cure him is through stopping him from eating wheat, sugar and anything processed or unorganic.Im unsure how much nutrition has to do with healing asthma, although I do understand its obvious benifits. We would also love to not have him use puffers if possible as they seem to have caused an unhealthy dependence in my husbands family
A: I am asthmatic and I know that sugar and very sweet foods can trigger an attack. I have also found tomatoes a bit dodgey. I find that the more I use my Ventolin the more I need it so I am really good with my preventative so I can minimise the dependency on my Ventolin. But I’m not stupid, I take it when I need it.
There is a system of breathing that has helped a few of my friends, I can’t remember what it’s called. But one has been off medication for three years, but she was not very severe in the first place.
You can have allergies tested so you know which ones he is sensitive to so that he doesn’t need to give up everything. For example milk has no effect on my asthma or mucus production and it helps suppress other allergies because it has a natural antihistamine in it.
Good Luck
Q: I have food allergies to milk/dairy and I have asthma but I really would like to join the Peace Corp or someth?
Does anyone know if these things would disqualify me from being able to join?
A: You might want to ask this in a section other than military – maybe “Other-Politics and Government”
Q: Is there such thing as a delayed food allergy or food sensitivity?
I was reading about a test ELISA/ACT (Lymphocyte Response Assay) which tests for 400 common food allergies. They are hidden, in that there symptoms are delayed (1-5 days) and manifest in symptoms other than hives, asthma etc.
This link better explain the test compared to the RAST. I am very interested in your professional opinion because it was suggest that I take this test, which is extremely expensive and not covered by insurance. Then I read elsewhere that is bogus. So what do you think?
http://members.tripod.com/~CheriR/Rast.html
A: The ELISA tests test for IgG mediated allergic reactions (which the medical field calls intolerances or sensitivies). What the medical field considers allergies is IgE mediated allergic reactions, which are generally “instant” reactions usually occuring within 15 minutes – 2 hours from contact, though even IgE can take up to 24 hours.
IgE, IgA, IgG, etc.. Are all facets of your body’s immune response system. IgG responses can occur within hours, but generally you won’t see the results for at least 1-3 days.
Your link has some facts wrong btw. RAST testing only tests for IgE mediated allergic responses. ELISA only tests IgG and is new and growing in its reputation. Some places that test IgG also do a new test called a CAP-RAST which tests IgE responses but is much more sensitive/accurate than old RAST tests.
IgG (delayed reactions) can be nearly impossible to discover on your own, and the ELISA can be extremely helpful for pinning down these reactions.
One of the issues (complaints) about IgG testing is that IgG reactions are considered temporary, meaning that if you avoid the food for 4 months (or so) you should be able to add the food back in without problems. For most people, the 4 months of avoidance allows them to “reset” their system and then add the food back in without issue, there are a few people with overactive immune systems (extreme allergies) in which it takes much longer for this reset to happen.
I do recommend getting the test done if you can afford it, as it will really improve your quality of life if you stick to the complete avoidance for the full 4 months. (you won’t believe the amount of stuff that delayed reactions do to you)
I will say though that just because its delayed reactions doesn’t mean that it doesn’t manifest in hives, asthma, shortness of breath, or sinus trouble. There are many people who have hives, breathing problems, and even eczema that is caused by delayed reactions.
Because the cost of the test is so high (some insurances do cover it, but some don’t), I’d try to rule out other things with tests that are covered by insurances such as IgE testing (skin prick & RAST, or even CAP-RAST if your insurance covers it). I’d also have a Celiac panel ran (cheap and most insurances cover it) to rule out gluten as a potential problem. Celiac can cause the body to develop multiple delayed food allergies due to intestinal damage, so do rule this out before going through the ELISA. If those give you no answers, and you’re plagued by issues.. esp. eczema, sinus problems, digestive problems, reflux, skin problems, breathing, snoring, concentration, confusion, mood problems, mental problems, etc. Then I’d recommend putting the money into the ELISA test.
It did wonders for me as I would never have figured out half of my food problems without it. However, my insurance covered it completely so cost was not an issue for me. The test I had done was through, Immunolabs which also has an excellent CAP-RAST test (Immunosorbent Allergy Assay Panel – IgE 36) which was extremely helpful as well. http://www.immunolabs.com/
Q: Would this be considered a food allergy or what?
I’ve noticed that when I eat certain foods like almonds, avocados and bananas my throat gets really itchy and tight and so so my inner ears. And then it becomes a little hard to breathe. Now I have asthma and so it took me awhile to realize I was getting this from foods (I’m still trying to figure out all the foods that do this to me because I know there are more). Is this an allergy? Or is my asthma triggered by these foods, is that possible? If so is there anything I can do? Some of the foods I react to are high in good protein, good cholesterol and omegas. Also I think it happens with kiwi fruit.
The symptoms are similar enough to asthma that I call them the same although they are not exact. And I do take my asthma medication after I feel the symptoms and it relieves them only slightly. Is there anything I can do for food allergies? Many of the things I get this reaction to are wonderful for you. Am I condemned to a life of CRAP FOOD?!
So maybe my body is attacking these foods? So I should just eat them more often? That article was long and seemingly contradictory at times. Saying its not allergies if you don’t have these symptoms, but maybe it is allergies if you have these…
A: Sounds like allergies to me. I’ve had various allergies all my life, no asthma. Some things bothered my allergies differently at different times. the previous article confused me too.
You can become allergic to things that never bothered you before.
The itching is something you want to watch out for. I’ve gone into anaphylactic shock and had to be given a shot of adrenaline. I itched like mad and had no idea that I was swelling up. you can die from it if it’s severe.
hopefully you can keep a log of what you eat and how it affects you, and hopefully you can find healthy alternatives.
I would not eat more of something that you know gives you an allergic reaction, that may be dangerous.
I take steroid based medicines for seasonal allergies but I don’t take any thing for food allergies, so not sure what’s avaliable.
